LCIMS Expansion Information
Lenoir City Intermediate/Middle School Expansion Information
Lenoir City Schools is thrilled to announce the final stages of planning for improved facilities that will meet the needs of our Lenoir City school community. This project, which the board has consistently discussed over the past several years, addresses the need to create two separate schools serving grades 3-5 and 6-8. These expanded schools, with distinct administrative and support teams, will ensure that we are purposefully and meaningfully addressing the diverse academic and social-emotional needs of our students in elementary and intermediate grades.
The LCS Board of Education took a significant step in investing in our school community by approving the Oakdale Bond Proposal at its meeting on September 25. This proposal approved the issuance of $20 million in bonds for construction focused on expanding the existing LCIMS building to create two distinct schools: Lenoir City Intermediate School, serving grades 3-5, and Lenoir City Middle School, serving grades 6-8. While these schools will remain connected by various common spaces, creating two distinct schools enables us to meet both the social-emotional and academic needs of our students through targeted programming and facility upgrades at the current LCIMS, with separate entrances, administrative teams, bell schedules, and support services for grades 3-5 and grades 6-8. This project will also alleviate space limitations at Lenoir City Elementary School. We are excited that this expansion will open up more opportunities for us to enroll additional students who choose to attend Lenoir City Schools in grades PreK through 8th grade.
This project does not require Lenoir City Schools to request any type of tax increase, now or in the future. It will be funded using the existing designated sales tax fund and our capital fund balance, both of which have been strategically saved to address the identified needs of our students. These construction plans will provide a significant improvement to the services offered to our youngest students. We are thankful our Board of Education has prioritized the needs of Lenoir City Schools students and our school community. Further information will be communicated in person at school events and on our website in the coming weeks.
