Clarence Littleton - 1930

Littleton is remembered as a true shooting star. He was a leader on the first State Basketball Championship team in 1930 and made All State for his performance. In the era he played, he is known as the team player originating and perfecting the hook shot which was almost impossible to block. His backhanded shot in the final seconds of the Championship game brought the fans to their feet with a roar and those who saw it regarded it as the greatest shot ever. He later attended Carson Newman College where he played four years, after which he signed and tried out with the Boston Celtics. He was elected as a charter member to the Hall of Fame in 1970.

EDD LITTLETON-1936

He was a tower of strength on the 1934-35 and 1936 football team where he played tackle. He was not known as a flashy player but could be depended on by his coach and teammates to do the work of 2 ordinary men. They thought so much of his qualities that they elected him Captain in 1936 and these traits made him feared and respected by all who he played against. He was elected as a charter member to the Hall of Fame in 1970.

Petie was a three-year starter in basketball in 1976-78. He served as a team captain in 1977-78. Petie was the leading rebounder in 1976-78 with a total of 759 or 9.7 RPG for all three years. He was the leading scorer in 1976-78 with a total of 1227 points in 78 games for a 15.7 average per game. He was also the leading rebounder in 1976-78 and leader in free throw percentage for all three years. He was voted Most Valuable Player in 1977 and 1978. He was on the All District first team in 1976-78 and the All Region Tournament in 1978. Petie was named to the All East Tennessee Tournament team in 1978. In his senior year he scored 566 points for a 20.3 average per game. He went on to play two years at Roane State Community College where he was a two-year starter and captain his sophomore year. He was elected and inducted into the Lenoir City High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.

GILBERT LUTTRELL-1960

He was a great basketball and baseball player and terrorized all opposition in both sports. In baseball, he earned 4 letters, making All Conference and leading the conference in batting. He is more widely known for his basketball play, as a member of the 1959 State Tournament Team, and as Captain of the 1960 team he was named to the All District, All Region, All East Tennessee and All State team. He signed an athletic scholarship to Carson Newman, where he excelled in both sports. In baseball, he was All Conference 4 years and passed up the opportunity to try out with the Cincinnati Reds because of military obligations after graduation. In basketball, he was All Conference 3 years and Tournament MVP 2 years and was elected Captain his senior year. Each year at Carson Newman he was in the NAIA Championships. He was All American his last 2 years as well as the NAIA All Tournament Teams. He received the Charles Stevenson "Mr. Hustle" award in 1963 and named to the NAIA Distinguished Athletes Association. He was also named to the Christian Brothers College All Opponent Team, joining NBA stars Bill Bradley and Dave DeBusschere. He was also named an alternate on NAIA Tryout team for the 1964 Olympics Basketball Team and was named to the Carson Newman "Basketball Team of the Century". He capped his great career off by being elected to the Carson Newman Sports Hall of Fame in 1964. After graduation, he served 3 years as an active duty officer with the Marines with a tour in Viet Nam. He received the Navy Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service and retired in the reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel. After military service, he began his teaching and coaching career as assistant basketball and football coach at Gibbs High School. He then moved to the Webb School where he had a 27 year career as Basketball Coach (9 years), teacher and as Athletic Director and Principal. He then became Assistant Director of Schools of Loudon County. He was elected as a charter member to the Hall of Fame in 1970.

Howard Luttrell - 1957

He was a four-year letterman in both baseball and basketball. In baseball, he was a crafty left-hander who started his last three years, earning All-CAC his senior year as a pitcher and also as a hitter, batting over .400. In basketball, he was a member of the 1955 team who finished 4th in the State Tournament. He started his last two years, making All-District and All-Region as a junior. He was elected Captain as a senior and was All-District. He then went to Carson-Newman College where he earned letters three years in baseball and basketball. In basketball, he was Captain his last year. In baseball, he was elected Co-Captain his senior year and received serious interest from the New York Yankees. Instead of pursuing the call from the Yankees, he decided to make the U.S. Marine Corps a career. During his military career, he continued his love for sports and was a member of a USMC basketball team, playing on a team made up of other college stars from Villanova, Western Michigan, the Citadel and Shaw University. He also became certified as a referee/umpire in basketball, baseball and football. He was certified and licensed by the NCAA and in International basketball, where he called the Goodwill Games. He retired from the U.S. Marines, after two tours in Viet Nam, as a highly decorated Colonel of 29 years. During his military caret he earned the following medals: Legion of Merit (twice), Bronze Star with Combat "V," the Meritorious Service Medal and 12 others. He was elected to the LCHS Hall of Fame in 2008.
