Raymond Williams - 1958

Williams played 2 years varsity football and 4 years baseball. In football, he was elected Co-Captain his last year and received the Most Outstanding Player trophy as he scored 76 points during the year. He was selected to the 2nd. team All East Tennessee. In baseball, he was an outstanding fastball pitcher with a low ERA, leading the Panthers to the District Championship. Recognized as one of the fastest athletes to ever play at LCHS, he proved his abilities later in college. Later he played football, baseball and track at Tennessee Military Institute before entering Carson Newman. There, he played football 4 years and was on the track team 2 years. He won the 100 yard dash and the 220 yard dash in 1962 at the Volunteer State Athletic Conference Track Meet. His best time in the 100 yard dash was 9.7 seconds and in the 220 yard dash 21.7 seconds. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2006.

Billy Willis--- 1988


Billy lettered three years in football for the Panthers.  He played many positions, including return specialist, running back, punter, quarterback, cornerback, safety, and special teams.  During his three year career he had 1584 rushing yards, 748 passing yards, 203 receiving yards, 22 combined touchdowns, 10 passing touchdowns, 1186 kick-off return yards, 876 punt return yards, 5 interceptions, 104 tackles, and averaged 39.5 yards per punt.  His junior year, Billy was named to the All Loudon County Team and All District 4AA Team.  He was awarded the Best Back Award at LCHS.  He was selected as State Player of the Week Honorable Mention.  His senior year, Billy was named to the All Loudon County Team at Quarterback/Punter, All District 5AA Team, All East Tennessee Class AA Honorable Mention Team, and District 5AA Most Valuable Player Runner Up. He was named to Who’s Who in American High School Football.   He was voted LCHS Most Athletic.  Billy lettered in baseball two years as DH and shortstop.  His sophomore year he was named to the All Loudon County Team and All District 4AA Team.  His junior year he was named All District and All County.  He received offers from Carson Newman and Tennessee Wesleyan.  Billy was inducted in the LCHS Sports Hall of Fame in 2017.

Bobby Wright

BOBBY WRIGHT - 1965

Bobby began his basketball career as a sixth grader at Nichols School, playing guard three years for the Nichols team. Bobby was a three-year letterman at LCHS and was a starter in his junior and senior years. In his junior year he helped the Panthers get to the State Tournament. As a senior, Bobby was voted captain of the Panther squad. In his senior year he was the Most Outstanding player, leading scorer averaging 16 points per game, leading rebounder averaging 9 per game, runner-up as best defensive player and free throw average. Bobby was named All District and chose all Tri-State by the Chattanooga News. The highlight of Bobby's career was scoring 40 points against Meigs County to break the single game scoring record of 39 that was set by his brother, Roy, six years earlier. After high school, Bobby signed a scholarship to play basketball for Lake city Junior college in lake City, FL, one of the top junior college programs in the state of Florida. At Lake City Bobby was a part-time starter as a freshman and was a full-time starter at point guard in his second year. As a sophomore Bobby received the Best Defensive player award for the Lake City squad. Bobby also competed as a cross-country runner for Lake City. As a junior, Bobby signed a scholarship to play for West Georgia University but recurring back problems led him to give up this position. Although Bobby turned to a career in business after graduating from West Georgia with a degree in accounting and finance, he remained active in sports, playing for over twelve years for church and independent league teams where he was part of several championship teams. Bobby has been active in youth sports programs for many years as both a coach and administrator, winning a number of championships with his youth teams.  He was inducted into the LCHS HALL OF FAME in 2012 and joins his brother ROY as a member.

Roy Wright13

Roy Wright - 1959

At 6'5'', Wright is remembered for his aggressive play on the 1958 State Basketball Champions, making All Region on the way to the State Crown. In 1959 he was elected Captain of the team and he averaged 21.9 points per game with 15 rebounds per game. His top scoring night was 39 points in 2 ½ quarters of play. He made All District, All Region and All State. His play led the team back to the State Tournament in Nashville, losing to the eventual State Champion (Alcoa). He scored 30 points in that game earning him a spot on the All State Tournament team, becoming the only Lenoir City player to be named All State during the year and also All State Tournament the same year. He was heavily recruited by many schools. In fact, he was the state's top college prospect and received over 30 scholarship offers, including SEC and ACC teams Florida State, Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt and Florida and as far away as Oklahoma before deciding on Tennessee. He was elected as a charter member to the Hall of Fame in 1970.

 

Bill Yearout

BILL YEAROUT-1937

He began his football career as a sub on the undefeated 1934 team, and he played guard in 1935 and moved to the backfield in 1936 and 37 where he played every position. In his 4 years, Lenoir City football won 36 and lost only 5. He went on to become a star at Auburn, serving as Captain of the War Eagles. After WWII, he returned to Auburn as a member of the coaching staff. Bill also showed his versatile athletic talents by playing on the Lenoir City basketball team in 1936. He was elected as a charter member to the Hall of Fame in 1970.

Paul Yearout - 1925

"Possum" played in 1922-23 and 1924 and was considered the best defensive end of his era. He was captain in 1923 and again in 1924 and came back for one game in 1925, even after he had graduated. That game was against Maryville College "B" team and his defensive play was the highlight of the game. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1971.
